The School was for troubled girls. In the early 2000s, it closed. The state of things looked like people left quickly. And then it seems as though nobody came in to deal with the remainder of the operations. Everything was just dropped. Some of the images are fascinating, some troubling, and some haunting. One wonders what kinds of things happened in such a school.
The art room was one particularly intriguing room where the girls' budding creativity, sometimes dark and sometimes playful, could still be felt. It was as if, after third period art class on Wednesday, nobody ever came back --- until the scavengers showed up.
The capturing of these images is done with an artistic perspective in part, but also in recognition of history and hopefully with some lessons learned, or at least progress. This series is a nod to those who struggle with internal demons.
Half of the proceeds from sales of The School Collection will go to charities who are in some way in connection with helping trouble teens.
